Facilities Expansion
During the past year, fire fighters from Oregon, Colorado, South Dakota, Alaska, Montana, and Canada were certified at RMESTC. In addition, the 40-hour basic fire fighting courses, recertification classes, and specialized training programs were expanded to include advanced aviation training and military courses.
The Rocky Mountain Emergency Training Center (RMESTC) provides instructors and is responsible for developing course content. The classes provide recertification in compliance with the FAA’s FAR Part 139.319. Their highly qualified instructors have practical experience as well as superior abilities.
This year a combination intermediate SAFT/Spill Trainer recertification class is being offered. Fire fighters who have completed the RMESTC recertification or have at least four years experience in aircraft fire fighting are eligible for this class. The intermediate class is scheduled from 4pm until midnight and features night time response procedures and fire fighting techniques. The response to the intermediate class has been very positive. Students will be trained in the above areas as well as on and off road courses.
We remain dedicated to providing one of the best fire fighting training programs in the country. We will work with your departments to tailor specific programs to meet individual requirements. We are also happy to make special scheduling arrangements for groups of eight or more students from a sponsoring agency.
The RMESTC is aggressively pursuing the addition of a structural fire trainer for this facility. The design of the structural trainer provides for a multi story building with multiple fire scenarios. A rail tank car has been acquired to provide specialized training for agencies that may be required to respond to rail incidents. The unit will be equipped with a smoke generator and a liquid flow system to simulate toxic spills.
We are in the process of ordering a 1,500 gallon ARFF that should be ready for the 2011 season.
