RMESTC Aircraft Fire Fighting Training

Facilities Expansion

During the past year, fire fighters from Oregon, Colorado, South Dakota, Alaska, Montana, and Canada were certified at RMESTC. In addition, the 40-hour basic fire fighting courses, recertification classes, and specialized training programs were expanded to include advanced aviation training and military courses.

The Rocky Mountain Emergency Training Center (RMESTC) provides instructors and is responsible for developing course content. The classes provide recertification in compliance with the FAA’s FAR Part 139.319. Their highly qualified instructors have practical experience as well as superior abilities.

This year a combination Advanced SAFT/Spill Trainer recertification class is being offered. Fire fighters who have completed the RMESTC recertification or have at least four years experience in aircraft fire fighting are eligible for this class. The intermediate class is scheduled from 4pm until midnight and features night time response procedures and fire fighting techniques. The response to the intermediate class has been very positive. Students will be trained in the above areas as well as on and off road courses.

We remain dedicated to providing one of the best fire fighting training programs in the country. We will work with your departments to tailor specific programs to meet individual requirements. We are also happy to make special scheduling arrangements for groups of eight or more students from a sponsoring agency.

The RMESTC recently was awarded a $1,000,000.00 grant from the COPS (Community Orientated Policing Services) to purchase five mobile fire training units. These mobile training units include a Structural Fire Trainer, a Car Fire Trainer, a Helicopter Fire Trainer, a Tanker Trailer Fire Trainer and a HazMat Trainer. Each of these trainers is fully portable, with hand held operating controls and built in safety measures. These mobile units will enable the RMESTC to provide on-site and cost-effective training to airports and first responders across the state and region. Delivery for these units is expected to be in late summer of 2012 and they will be fully operational in 2013.

In March of 2011 the training center took delivery of a new Rosenbauer 1500 gallon Panther ARFF vehicle. This fire fighting vehicle is top of the line with all the bells and whistles on board.
